Building/Creating. Think Lego/building blocks or any craft that requires focus.

Dancing. Moving our bodies helps us boost endorphins.

Funny movies/tv shows. Watching a family favourite movie that is funny and light hearted can reduce anxiety as it's familiar, it's can help take the focus off the worrying and is a great opportunity to snuggle up together. Snuggling also helps calm your little one's nervous system.

Colouring to Reduce Anxiety

Colouring isn't just for kids. It can be a healthy activity for the whole household. Belmount.org says "Coloring has the ability to relax the fear center of your brain, the amygdala. It induces the same state as meditating by reducing the thoughts of a restless mind. This generates mindfulness and quietness, which allows your mind to get some rest after a long day at work." So consider picking up an adult colouring book to calm your own mind and print off a few of these for your little ones. They are a great way to connect the message from the book with their imagination.

If you enjoyed colouring as a child, you'll likely enjoy it as an adult.

Key Benefits of Colouring to Reduce Anxiety

Your brain experiences relief by entering a meditative state. This makes you feel calm overall.

Focusing on the present helps you achieve mindfulness. So feel free to focus on those little colouring details.

Low stakes - There are no big consequences if you "mess it up". Even if you colour outside the lines it's not likely you'll feel bad about it.

It's nostalgic - It takes us back to a simpler time.

Attention flows away from our thoughts. Colouring can take us out of our busy minds and into our bodies.
